Bhubaneswar: Biju Research Chair in the honour of former Odisha Chief Minister and legendary leader Biju Patnaik would be set up in Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS), announced Prof. Harekrushna Satapathy, Vice Chancellor.
Students and staff of the institute paid tribute to Biju Babu on the occasion of observation of his 21st Death Anniversary on April 17, 2018.
KISS Deemed University is the first university in India to set up a Research Chair in the name of Biju Babu, informed Prof. Satapathy. It will stimulate research on life and work of the late leader, he added.
A statue of Biju Babu will be placed in KISS premises, where statues of great personalities including Mahatma Gandhi, Subhas Chandra Bose, Swami Vivekananda, Baba Saheb Ambedkar, Gautam Buddha, Utkalmani Gopabandhu Das, Madhusudan Das are placed.
Remembering Biju Babu, Dr. Achyuta Samanta, Founder, KIIT & KISS spoke on Biju Babu’s ideology and his role in India’s freedom moment.
Biju Babu always said that quality education can break the cycles of intergenerational poverty. The KG to PG formula of providing education free of cost in the capital city where the marginalized get an opportunity to become changemakers was envisioned by Biju Patnaik, Dr. Samanta said. His dreams are getting realized at KISS in true sense and spirit, he added.
Among others, RN Dash, Secretary, KIIT & KISS; Dr. P K Routray, CEO, KISS, Surjyakant Mohanty, COO, KISS; Dr. P. K. Das, Director, KISS; Rabi Behera, Surendra Das, Secretary General, Chinta O Chetana and Ashok Pandey were present and paid tribute to Biju Babu.
