The Padma Vibhushan is the second-highest civilian award of the Republic of India; “Bharat Ratna” being the first- highest civilian award. The Padma Bhusan being the third , followed by The Padma Shri Award.
This year 85 recipients have been selected for the prestigious awards including two duo cases. This includes 3 Padma Vibhushan, 9 Padma Bhushan and 73 Padma Shri awards. Fourteen of the awardees are women, while 16 persons are foreigners and three are being awarded posthumous.
Music maestro Ilaiyaraja , a noted music composer, Ustad Ghulam Mustafa Khan who is an Indian classical musician in the Hindustani classical music tradition and Shri P. Parameswaran, a Hindutva thinker in Kerala and an orator , were the recipients of the Padma Vibhushan awards of 2018.
Smt.Sharda Sinha , afolk-singer from Bihar, Arvind Parikh a Hindustani classical musician and sitar player, Pankaj Arjan Advani an Indian English billiards and snooker player, Alexander Mikhailovich Kadakin who was a Russian diplomat and the Russian Ambassador to India from 2009 until his death in 2017, Ramachandran Nagaswamy an Indian historian, archaeologist and epigraphist, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, an Indian cricketer who captained the Indian team in limited-overs formats from 2007 to 2016 and in Test cricket from 2008 to 2014, Laxman Pai an Indian artist and painter, Dr. Philipose Mar Chrysostom Mar Thoma Valiya Metropolitan , the Metropolitan bishop of the Mar Thomas Syrian Church of India, and Prof Ved Prakash Nanda an expert in International Law, has been awarded with Padma Bhushan awards.
