Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government on Saturday said that laying of two new turfs at the Kalinga Stadium for the Men’s Hockey World Cup will be completed by the end of June.
While existing turfs will be removed at the hockey stadium ahead of the tournament, scheduled to be held between November 28 and December 16, the target has been set to complete laying of two new turfs in the stadium by end of June, said an official.
Reviewing the preparation for the tournament chief secretary A.P. Padhi said the construction, expansion and renovation works at the Kalinga Stadium are on full swing as per the time schedule.
Padhi asked the concerned departments to take adequate measures for ensuring fire safety and healthy food quality in the hotels where the players and team officials are scheduled to stay.
The review showed that the reconstruction of the swimming complex inside the stadium has been completed and it will be given the finishing touch soon.
The construction of new galleries and expansion of existing galleries for enhancing sitting capacity in the stadium have been fastened.
Padhi directed to complete the work by May 31.
Padhi further directed the home and police department to make detail traffic movement plan keeping in view the convenience of the city dwellers and visitors.
Further, it was decided to construct foot over bridge near Kalinga stadium for uninterrupted traffic flow and convenience of pedestrians.
So far, an inventory of 412 hotels in Bhubaneswar, Cuttack and Puri has been prepared for accommodation of players and visitors, said the official.
