Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police on Friday arrested two brokers for their alleged involvement in duping patients and their relatives in SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.
They were apprehended from super specialty outdoor of the hospital.
The two brokers (Dalals) were identified as Bishnu Prasad Naik (34 years) of Medical Sweeper Colony under Mangalabag police limits and Bikash Kumar Parida (27 years) of Malihat.
Police sources said acting on a tip-off, Mangalabag police along with special squad staff getting information that brokers are taking bribe at the Super Specialist outdoor of SCB Medical College and Hospital, conducted raids today.
During search, police have recovered outdoor tickets of the patients, pushing cards of different clinics and diagnostic centers, one Samsung mobile and cash of Rs. 1,900 from Bishnu.
In addition to this, police have also recovered one ECG machine with its equipments, pushing cards of different clinics and diagnostic centers, one Samsung mobile and cash of Rs 500 from Bikash.
During investigation, it is ascertained that the above accused persons used to induce poor and innocent patients coming from remote areas alluring them better treatment by reputed doctors with cheap prices.
They used to get huge profits by cheating the poor and ignorant patients. The accused were also getting huge profits by illegally conducting ECG tests inside the campus by deceiving innocent patients and getting Rs 300 for each patient. Whereas ECG tests are free of cost in Government hospitals.
Both the accused persons will be forwarded to a local court in Cuttack. Police have slapped charges under sections 419, 420 and 34 IPC against the accused.
