India’s star shooter Jitu Rai won gold with a masterful performance in the men’s 10m Air Pistol event at the 21st Commonwealth Games here on Monday.
Jitu created a new CWG record of 235.1 in the final to win the gold. Rai reached the final with a score of 570.
Om Mitharwal bagged the bronze for India with 214.3. Om enjoyed a promising start to his campaign and emerged as the best shooter in the qualification stage.
Boxing
Indian boxer Gaurav Solanki entered the quarter-finals of the men’s flyweight (52 kilogram) category at the 21st Commonwealth Games here on Monday.
Solanki defeated Akimos Annang Ampiah of Ghana by a unanimous 5:0 verdict in the round of 16.
High Jump
India’s Tejaswin Shankar entered the final of the men’s high jump event at the 21st Commonwealth Games here on Monday.
Shankar registered a best attempt of 2.21 metres, thus meeting the qualifying standard of 2.27m. He finished the qualification stage at the joint fifth spot.
Table Tennis
The Indian men’s Table Tennis team assured of at least a silver medal after beating Singapore to qualify for the final of the 21st Commonwealth Games here on Monday.
Star paddler Achanta Sharath Kamal won the crucial decider against Xue Jie Pang to guide India to the summit clash against the winner of the second semi-final between Nigeria and England, later on Monday.
In the crucial decider, the experienced Sharath Kamal used all his experience to pocket the tie against Xue Jie Pang, 11-5, 12-10, 12-10, and propel India to the final with a 3-2 win.
